Taking Upon Ourselves the Name of Jesus Christ

Our visitors today were a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law combo who were visiting Arizona from Utah and Vegas.  I didn't catch their names though.  Before we began our lesson, Sister LeAnn Risenhoover asked if anyone wanted to share about the media fast.  Sister Downs has always had the rule of not engaging in social media until after she has read her scriptures but with the media fast she spent the time she would have spent on social media reading her scriptures and she's reading three more chapters a day.  Sister Kathy Jones thought it was interesting that President Nelson's challenge to the women was mentioned on Fox News.  Sister Alicia Petersen wondered if the social media noticed a decline in activity for those ten days?  Sister Meg Flam found it liberating to not be caught up in who did what and feeling like she didn't measure up.  Her husband didn't think he used social media very much but once he deleted the app he realized he would look at ...

Small and Simple Things

Today we had the familiar face of  Sydnee Inman  (now married) in our midst as they were down looking for possible places to live when they move back to Arizona the beginning of next year! Mamma  Rachael Bonnell Inman  couldn't resist doing a little happy dance! We were also able to enjoy the familiar faces of our recently released Primary presidency;  Linda Hill ,  Jennifer Hammond , and Cherice Rigby. There were lots of changes last week and I don't remember them all but I remember  Jennifer Hammond  is our new RS Presidency secretary as she was sitting up front! Welcome sisters! We hope your transition will be a smooth one!" Have I done any good in the world today? Have I helped anyone in need? Have I cheered up the sad and made someone feel glad? If not, I have failed indeed. Has anyone’s burden been lighter today Because I was willing to share? Have the sick and the weary been helped on their way? When they needed my help was I ther...

Personal Revelation

I was late arriving today but I understand Sister Kristin Collins daughter, recently returned from her mission in Brazil, was with us as was Sister Regina Pangerl's daughter.    Welcome! Welcome! Sister Barnes' sacrament talk was a perfect introduction to our Relief Society lesson today!  Sister Joanna Beck reminded us of the importance of having the Holy Ghost in our lives as she reviewed two Conference talks with us.  Elder Larry Wilson's talk "Take the Holy Spirit as Your Guide" and President Russell M. Nelson's talk "Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives" were the Conference talks reviewed. Elder Wilson's story of Ensign Frank Blair provided a real-life example for how we can receive the Spirit's guidance more frequently in our own lives.  The FIRST GUIDELINE we learned is to receive revelation we must properly tune our receiver to heaven's frequency.  Sister Beck asked what that meant to us.  Kristen Winter said h...

Preparing for General Conference

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but it seems like every week we have new sisters joining us. We are so blessed! Today is no exception and since I was gone last week, I will introduce a couple.  Megan Asper has recently moved in with her husband Kendall and their five children. She has bookend boys ages 9 and 1 with three little girls ages 8, 6, and 3 in between. Megan and Kendall grew up in Utah but are coming to us from Louisiana where Kendall completed his anesthesia residency.  Meg Bird has also moved in with her husband and their cute little Tanner who will turn 2 in October (love his name!:). They are expecting their second little one in February. Meg's husband completed his masters in Oklahoma and is now working as a Financial Advisor.  We are also blessed to have Jennifer Fifield's mom, Wendy Downs, with us. I wasn't able to visit much with her today so make sure you reach out to get to know her! Today our discussion centered around preparin...

The Blessings of Family History

Last week we were joined by two new sisters to the ward. Sister  Regina Pangerl   has moved back into their home near   Alicia Call Peterson   after being in the Apache Park ward for several years. Sister   Cherie Hammond Bruggeman   is in the process of moving to Arizona with her family from Idaho. She is Brother Brad Hammond's sister and they are currently staying with them until they find a home. We are excited to have both of these families join us. Sister Amber Esplin from Texas was visiting today and is a potential new ward family member since they put an offer on a home in our ward boundaries. Fingers crossed it works out for them. I noticed   Leslie Winward Wright 's mom was also visiting with us today but they are returning home tomorrow. Sister  Rachel Terry Thomas  showed today that she is equally talented at leading a discussion as she is at leading our ward choir. Through her guidance we had a wonderful lesson on the blessings...
