The Sabbath Day

(Since I can't have a ward calling, maybe sharing my notes from our Relief Society lessons can be one way I can participate in our ward. Please feel free to tack on anything that stood out to you though!) Another wonderful lesson today. We enjoyed having Brother Mariner's daughter, Beth Mortensen, visit with us along with our two graduating laurels: Nicole Hammond and Maddy Trimble accompanied by Sister  Amanda Morphy Glenn  and her sister-in-law.  Sister  Robyn Christensen Wilson  taught our third lesson on the Sabbath Day. We decided this topic is being repeated because we still need to hear it AND because each time we hear it is an invitation to work on one thing. Then the next time we hear it we can work on a different thing which will help us to continue to progress.  Several things our sisters have been working on: getting to church early (not an easy feat with 8:00 a.m. church), preparing the church bag and meal prep etc the night before--"Sat...

Being a Disciple of Christ

Today we welcomed a new sister, Jenny Fisher. She and her husband just moved to our ward from the Liberty ward. She said she is from South Korea. So be sure and say "hi" to the Fishers! A sophomore boy who plays football for Centennial and a daughter who is 11 turning 12 soon (I believe).  Sister Robyn Wilson taught our lesson on being a disciple of Christ.  We identified some spiritual illnesses we may struggle with from time to time. They included: doubts of faith, a struggle with a point of doctrine, a clash with a spiritual leader, feeling offended, or not feeling worthy She pointed out that the healing power of Christ is still here on the earth. Acting as a disciple of Christ can help us bring the light of the doctrine of Christ to others. Love is the defining characteristic of a disciple of Christ. (I think that w...

Strengthening Relationships

I love the circle formation and first Sunday Relief Society lessons! Today we discussed ways to strengthen relationships. Not everyone shared but here are some of the ideas I remember (please feel free to add ideas I forgot)!:  To practice unconditional love even with family members who choose a different path; To extend forgiveness so family relationships can proceed;  To realize we don't have to push a loved one to anger just because we can-we can choose to be calm instead To express gratitude for our loved ones To realize the first shields Satan takes down is prayer and scripture study (shared from Sage Inman from a visiting general authority to her mission) so to keep trying to have these in our home To pull together as adult siblings to help and support each other To continue to include and invite family members to family events as well as church events without pressure to attend To look for and focus on the good in those around us To not be afraid to ...
