Strengthening Relationships

I love the circle formation and first Sunday Relief Society lessons! Today we discussed ways to strengthen relationships. Not everyone shared but here are some of the ideas I remember (please feel free to add ideas I forgot)!:
To practice unconditional love even with family members who choose a different path;
To extend forgiveness so family relationships can proceed;
To realize we don't have to push a loved one to anger just because we can-we can choose to be calm instead
To express gratitude for our loved ones
To realize the first shields Satan takes down is prayer and scripture study (shared from Sage Inman from a visiting general authority to her mission) so to keep trying to have these in our home
To pull together as adult siblings to help and support each other
To continue to include and invite family members to family events as well as church events without pressure to attend
To look for and focus on the good in those around us
To not be afraid to admit we were wrong or to apologize even if we are right....sometimes both are right but need to figure out how to be right together!
To remember this is all a process!

Preparing for General Conference

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but it seems like every week we have new sisters joining us. We are so blessed! Today is no exception and since I was gone last week, I will introduce a couple.  Megan Asper has recently moved in with her husband Kendall and their five children. She has bookend boys ages 9 and 1 with three little girls ages 8, 6, and 3 in between. Megan and Kendall grew up in Utah but are coming to us from Louisiana where Kendall completed his anesthesia residency.  Meg Bird has also moved in with her husband and their cute little Tanner who will turn 2 in October (love his name!:). They are expecting their second little one in February. Meg's husband completed his masters in Oklahoma and is now working as a Financial Advisor.  We are also blessed to have Jennifer Fifield's mom, Wendy Downs, with us. I wasn't able to visit much with her today so make sure you reach out to get to know her! Today our discussion centered around preparin...

Personal Revelation

I was late arriving today but I understand Sister Kristin Collins daughter, recently returned from her mission in Brazil, was with us as was Sister Regina Pangerl's daughter.    Welcome! Welcome! Sister Barnes' sacrament talk was a perfect introduction to our Relief Society lesson today!  Sister Joanna Beck reminded us of the importance of having the Holy Ghost in our lives as she reviewed two Conference talks with us.  Elder Larry Wilson's talk "Take the Holy Spirit as Your Guide" and President Russell M. Nelson's talk "Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives" were the Conference talks reviewed. Elder Wilson's story of Ensign Frank Blair provided a real-life example for how we can receive the Spirit's guidance more frequently in our own lives.  The FIRST GUIDELINE we learned is to receive revelation we must properly tune our receiver to heaven's frequency.  Sister Beck asked what that meant to us.  Kristen Winter said h...

Taking Upon Ourselves the Name of Jesus Christ

Our visitors today were a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law combo who were visiting Arizona from Utah and Vegas.  I didn't catch their names though.  Before we began our lesson, Sister LeAnn Risenhoover asked if anyone wanted to share about the media fast.  Sister Downs has always had the rule of not engaging in social media until after she has read her scriptures but with the media fast she spent the time she would have spent on social media reading her scriptures and she's reading three more chapters a day.  Sister Kathy Jones thought it was interesting that President Nelson's challenge to the women was mentioned on Fox News.  Sister Alicia Petersen wondered if the social media noticed a decline in activity for those ten days?  Sister Meg Flam found it liberating to not be caught up in who did what and feeling like she didn't measure up.  Her husband didn't think he used social media very much but once he deleted the app he realized he would look at ...
